Rhianna 'captures' day 2:
The second day of excavation
started with a renewed sense of determination to reach the end of the backfill in
our various areas, as the features
within the site became more prominent. This made us feel more excited and attached
to the particular parts we excavated, especially when the different sections
started to connect with each other or they finally reached the protective sheet.
This in particular made me feel rather unhappy to leave the drainage system
that my group had been working on to take part in other activities as I wanted
to rejoin it as soon as possible and uncover more of the features.
Later through the day the
different groups split up to do different tasks, which did provide some relief
from the heavy labour that we had to endure the day before. My group (group C) had to do some photography which provided an
insight on how to do a general site photo with the main method and chant of
frame, clear the site (of tools, people and rubbish etc.), mark the site with
ranging rods to provide a sense of scale with the site number board within view
and then take the picture. Another task that our group had to do was levelling
to provide a 3D context to the site. Simon helped us to understand how to set
up and use the dumpy level which we used to take down readings from the staff.
Overall we are making good progress as the work is tiring but rewarding and I cannot
wait to carry on tomorrow.
